2008 Europe Music Awards Winners!
But the ultimate power of the audience vote was underlined when Rick Astley scooped Best Act Ever. Rick was not available to attend the Awards. In his absence, presenters Katy Perry and Perez Hilton charmed the audience with a quick dance routine to his famous track. In a statement, Astley said: ""I am honoured that my fans worked so hard to help me win Best Act Ever at the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards. This is the first time I have been nominated for the EMAs and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me.""
Sir Paul McCartney was also honoured with a special award - the Ultimate Legend Award – which was presented to him by U2 lead singer Bono.

Oh, What a Show!
Riding a Cherry Chapstick, Katy Perry opened the proceedings surrounded by cheerleaders in a performance of ‘I Kissed A Girl’. Beyoncé took to the stage at the MTV EMAs for the third time with a riveting and classy performance of new single ‘If I Were A Boy.’ Also returning to the EMAs, after a fifteen year break, Take That mesmerised the audience with an exclusive first performance of their new single, ‘Greatest Day.’
The Killers revealed the versatility of the set when the screen lifted up to reveal the band performing ‘Human’ in a steel box installation accompanied by stunning three dimensional visuals. Kanye West and Estelle both made their performance debuts at this year’s show with a stylish rendition of ‘Love Lockdown,’ and ‘American Boy.’
Fresh from her own Award victory, Katy Perry introduced the debut performance by The Ting Tings who performed their hit single, ‘That’s Not My Name.’ Another debut followed when Kid Rock took to the stage performing his new single ‘So Hot’ which morphed into the summer hit of 2008, ‘All Summer Long.’ Duffy – in her MTV Europe Music Award’s debut - performed ‘Mercy.’ Continuing MTV’s love affair with Liverpool, The Wombats then took to the stage and performed a cover version of Leona Lewis’ ‘Bleeding Love.’
P!nk provided a shattering finale to the fifteenth MTV Europe Music Awards with a stunningly energetic performance of ‘So What.’ Storming from the glamour pit through the crowds to the stage, she was joined by 30 fans who engaged in a pillow fight - which ended with the whole audience being showered with 40,000 4-inch white feathers.

MTV Honours Sir Paul McCartney!
The ex-Beatle’s career started in the 1950s and he is now listed in the Guinness World Records as the most successful musician and composer in pop music history.
As well as an incredibly successful and continuing music career, Sir Paul is also a lead patron and co-founder – with Mark Featherstone-Witty – of the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA). Opened in June 1996 it is now one of the foremost centres of artistic excellence in the UK.
Now that we’ve made the pilgrimage to Liverpool, we couldn’t resist honouring one of the men that made it the music Mecca that it is!

Rubber Rocks!
The five shorts focus on specific safe sex messages that relate directly to the concerns that many young people have when it comes to using condoms - What is unsafe sex?; Is buying a condom embarrassing?; Why do I need a condom?; Do condoms reduce sensitivity?. In the not-for-the-faint-hearted and edgy style that Fur TV is synonymous with, celebrity puppets Lapeño, Fat Ed and Mervin tackle these sensitive issues, ending each vignette with the strapline “Rubber rocks. Wear a condom.”
Say the creators of Fur TV, Chris Waitt and Henry Trotter, ““We have always had a strong belief in safe sex, and that applies especially to sex between humans and puppets.”
While four of the shorts will premiere during the live broadcast of the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards, a fifth short has been created specifically for a web premiere.
As well as the Fur TV spots, Staying Alive will be on the red carpet at the MTV Europe Music Awards. Travis McCoy from Gym Class Heroes will be asking celebrities a series of questions around safe sex that will be broadcast around World AIDS Day (Monday 1st December 2008), which also marks Staying Alive’s 10th anniversary.

The Tings Tings Add English Twist to the EMAs!
The Ting Tings – Katie White and Jules De Martino – have released several massive singles this year including the UK number 1 hit 'That’s Not My Name’. Their debut album We Started Nothing also hit Number 1 and is the only debut album from a UK band to achieve Platinum status in 2008 to date.
Following the success of last year’s VIP Bar, Jared Leto and members of 30 Seconds to Mars are to host the VIP Bar in the Echo Arena. Not only will they be interviewing many of the stars of the show, but they're enlisting our audience to take part by submitting questions that could be asked LIVE on air (check out our Blog to find out how to submit...).
Triple-nominated Leona Lewis – in categories Album of the Year, Act of 2008 and Europe’s Favourite Act – will also attend the MTV Europe Music Awards to present an award and is joined by multi-platinum singer/songwriter Anastacia. Anastacia last performed at the 2004 MTV Europe Music Awards in Rome and returned in 2005 in Lisbon with Leto as a presenter.
